Meditation: Waterfall, Volcano, Geyser
Please find a private quiet space for this meditation. I invite you to sit or lie down in any comfortable position you choose. You can close your eyes or let your eyelids droop, and take in a breath of fresh air through your nostrils, breathing slowly and gently in, (breathe) and exhaling through your mouth also gently. Breathing in slowly and deeply, and breathing out any toxins, attachments, or energies that are not yours, breathing in light and warmth, exhaling to cleanse your body. Keep breathing this way as I guide you, or return to your normal breathing.
Ring bell 3 times
While you are breathing, imagine yourself deep inside the earth. You may be a living being, a gas, a liquid, a mineral, a solid something, an airy something, or any other type of substance, or material. Breathe.... As you wonder what you are, know that you have lived here comfortably, living life for quite some time. Keep breathing as you imagine what you are and how you move through the earth if you do move. Be creative, be yourself.
Pause. In whatever form you have been living deep in the earth, you are part of a community of substances, other beings or materials. You intermingle with new substances, commune with them, and become a part of their shape and space, connecting together. Now, imagine that in this deep, dark place you notice an underground vibration that stirs you up, gurgling, maybe even seeming chaotic. You may be in an area that holds a spring, or a waterfall, a geyser, or even a volcano.
We will explore just a few scenarios today. I’ll be asking you to take note of your senses while you travel.
In one scene, imagine yourself becoming part of a spring or a body of water that flows down from a mountain, sliding over rocks and cliffs. You become part of a waterfall slipping and gushing, moving from one place to another. Imagine how this feels. What do you see as you flow down, what do you hear? Who are you in this scene? Pause. Say good-bye to the waterfall for now.
Now, imagine yourself having been living inside the earth again, as part of a volcano while you live underneath the ground. You get caught up in the energy of the swirling hotness, the extreme heat of the substance coming up from the earth, boiling, whirling around, a vortex forming. Suddenly there is so much heat that you, along with all the other materials, liquids and solids, boil up and burst out of the ground spewing up into the sky, running down your earth's opening, hot lava dropping onto the sides of your release, cooling off as you flow down onto the earth. How does this experience feel? What do you see and hear? What do you smell? What is your part in this scene? Say goodbye briefly to this volcano activity.
Now, one more image. You are back in the ground where you began and you are in an area which is filled with liquids and gases, underground. Perhaps a spring or perhaps moving toward what becomes a geyser, shooting up from the earth high up into the sky, and falling back to earth, freed from below. Imagine yourself participating in this geyser. What’s that like for you, getting caught up in this spewing activity and energy? How does it feel? What do you see and hear, what part of this phenomena are you?
Now, as we come back from this imaginative journey back into our own bodies, let us thank these spaces and places we have explored, and know that we can return to them if we choose to in our imaginations. Thank your own imagination during this experience.
Now come back into your body, into your self, in the place where we started this mediation, wiggling your hands and feet. Breathing gently and slowly, returning to your current space and place on this earth. Please let yourself relax and let these experiences settle within you. And, when you are ready, feel free to open your eyes, turn on your sound and video if you’d like. Ring the bell.
